Okay so there's this girl I've known for a while, since the beginning of high school. I wouldn't call us especially close but we're friendly, have some paralleling interests and whatnot. We go to different local colleges and I've always thought rather highly of her, even back in high school. I don't see her very often at all but out of all the people I know currently..she's really the only one I would ask out, I think.

She's single..but I have no idea if she'd be even interested in me much...should I just send her a Facebook message on how I feel or something?  That sounds like it's out of the blue, I don't want it to be weird....I've never told anyone I've liked them before in any manner.

I wouldn't send her a Facebook message on how you feel. Only if you're extremely lucky and she happens to feel exactly the same will that work. Otherwise I don't think it's a good idea. It'll create a sense of awkwardness that'll pretty much shoot down anything else from happening.

I would ask her if she wants to hang out (maybe go to a movie, bowling, who knows).

Only a true pussy would contact somebody through Facebook and lay down some stalkerish bullshit about how much they like someone. If you have any balls at all, you would contact the girl directly and ask her if she would like to do something. Have something specific in mind so it doesn't just hang out there as an indefinite maybe. And for god's sake, save all that how much I admire and adore you bullshit until you actually get to know the girl and have something going. Otherwise, you sound like some sniveling twit who's never even seen a girl before.

It's not. There's nothing wrong with signaling interest by asking her to go do something.
