I know.  Random, but I really need help with it.

I'm staring in the play, 'Kes'. And, in the play, I'm Billy.

I can sort of a yorkshire accent. But in order for me to get good grades (this is a school drama production), I'd like to try and learn it a little better.

Has anyone got any easy tips that they think might help me strengthen, if not, learn the accent better?

  Thanks.

-R'theo.

Ah Kes makes me cry.

I would say, type in "yorkshire accent" into youtube and just listen and try to take in the way they say words. Also, watch the film of Kes? Will help with the accent and also how you play the part.

Watch a program with someone in it who has a Yorkshire accent.

Just listen to a lot of things which have the accent. Kes is a good example. But some modern stuff as well might help. Of course, nothing beats knowing some yorkshirites :P I stole my neighbour's accent for when it's useful. Perhaps some Peter Kay would help. Funny, and northern. A few good examples of yorkshirite there.

Done both and It didn't work. Of course, I done the youtube thing only a couple of times. But even still.

_______

And the peter kay thing might help. I'd give that a try [: thanks

Go down to 'Yorkshire and Humber' and speakers 55, 56, 57 and 66 are native Yorkshire speakers.

On the sidebar, you can look at their scripts and transcripts, so you can talk along with them, adn try and get a better grip of the accent. Hope that helps :)

I'm from the south of England, but I know what a Yorkshire accent sounds like because all my mum's family are from Yorkshire, even though they live locally now.

The worst thing you can do is to overdo it. Watch some of The Goodies and you'll see how easy it is to make it bad with all the 'tu' and everything. Try and go for 'hint of Yorkshire' rather than 'pure distilled extra virgin Yorkshire'.
