So recently i've decided to work towards being involved in the rasta faith, by changing my diet, praying, investing in a copy of the new testimant, reading about what it means to be rasta and about hallie selassi and so on
i told my boyfriend about my new faith and he mocked me, saying hallie selassi was a nice guy sure, but just cause a bunch of pot heads think he's jesus doesn't mean i should take his words so seriously.
i like the message of the rasta faith, why is it always so discredited?
why can't Ras Tafari be jesus?
cause he's black?
cause he smokes the herb?
cause he doesn't have magical powers?
I think any man who spreads the message of tollerance, peace, and a higher happier state of mind should be treated as seriously as a skinny white dude with a beard

thoughts?

I am personally not a very religious person but I think you should be able to believe whatever you want without dealing with other peoples ignorant, biased opinions.

Out of curiosity, what's so bad about being encouraged to think more deeply about your beliefs and the traditions of your religion?

They say that if you are drunk, it is more likely to contract HIV. Aren't they really saying if you're drunk youre more likely to get laid?

Jesus was a guy in history, who alot of people follow. Billions worship him, and many others consider him a good moral teacher.

He also claimed to be the son of God.

There's nothing wrong with your new faith and is just as valid as the beliefs of anyone else. The majority of the people mocking it in this thread seem to be the type to base the religion on "Bob Marley's Greatest Hits" and a stereotypes in movies.

i'm not sure what you're infering with this question

I'm not inferring anything. I'm simply pointing out that "hallie selassi was a nice guy sure, but just cause a bunch of pot heads think he's jesus doesn't mean i should take his words so seriously" isn't necessarily just mocking your faith, and that there's absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out a faith's inconsistencies.

Did he claim to be the son of God?

Even so, not that many people took him seriously

theres only 600,000 rastifarians out there, which is quite a few, but it seems to be more of a cultural thing.
Christianity has 2.1 billion (although i think thats a little high)
Jesus trancends time and space and culture. People come to Jesus from all walks of life, all cultures, all ethnic backgrounds, all socio-economic status, all political persuasions, all sexual orientations etc
