I'm currently running XP with a modem. But have bought a new computer with Vista which is incompatible. I've heard I need to buy an ethernet cable to make it work. 1. If I buy one, do I just plug it into my computer and modem? Where the hell do they go? 2. Around howmuch are they? Generally. 3. Are they reliable?

Why would you a buy a computer that wasn't compatible with your modem?

You're going to need a NIC for an ethernet cable to plug in. Ethernet does not interface with a modem directly.
