"Ethernet" cable?

I'm currently running XP with a modem.
But have bought a new computer with Vista which is incompatible.

I've heard I need to buy an ethernet cable to make it work.

1. If I buy one, do I just plug it into my computer and modem? Where the hell do they go?

2. Around howmuch are they? Generally.

3. Are they reliable?

Yes, they work (obviously)

not all that expensive, maybe 15 bucks

and yes they are reliable.

Depends how long of a cord you need... A 6ft is only like $4 max.  A 50 ft is $20 max.

As far as reliability.... Meh, they are cheap ass cords.  But if you treat them with some level of decency it should last.

Is this a dial-up, cable, or DSL modem?

If possible post the brand and model of modem.  Just because it is not marked as being compatible does not mean there are not ways to make it.

You're going to need a NIC for an ethernet cable to plug in. Ethernet does not interface with a modem directly.
