I know programming is hard...I know a lot of people have failed/dropped the class/dropped out/changed majors/transferred out/whatever over it and other courses...but that doesn't make me feel any better about having to turn in yet another assignment late.

The highest grade you can get on an assignment that isn't turned in before the next class period is an 80% so it's not bad, I'm almost done...but fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck.

I feel like such a failure, I've never needed this much help before and I fucking hate it. I used to have almost a 4.0 and now I'm struggling and I know why and it makes sense and it should be okay...I'm at a harder school, that's why it has the reputation that it does. 40% of the freshman class drops out. I'm not alone in being confused and stressed out but I still hate it.

Shit, a friend of mine's roommate just left a week ago. He flunked all of his classes, he just got tired of going and quit. And at least half of my Programming class is gone.  It just kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller. It's so tiny now. So I should be proud of myself for hanging on and having learned as much as I have but I hate this so much. I hate the panic attacks, the crying, feeling stupid...but I don't want to give up, I hate giving up.

When you go to college, it gets harder.  You've got to realize that - though you may not have needed it in high school - professors' office hours are  MEANT to be used (along with other methods of support), and if you don't take advantage of them you're missing out on some good potential learning experience.  So keep it up, don't drop out, keep getting help, don't feel like that makes you less smart, and try to have fun learning new things!

And this is how the education system is destruction unto itself.

I'm not a freshman, I'm a second year but because I never chose a major until after I transferred here, I'm just now getting all my major's core classes and fuck are they hard, I had no prior experience before coming here and it's just so hard but I don't want to quit.

I've been seeing the TA but sometimes it just takes too long for something to click in my head.

Does the school offer you anything to help you? The place I go to offers other students that are doing well money to tutor other students when they find it hard. Also you can keep asking for assistance from the teacher, hopefully to understand the work a lot better.

I see the TA and there are tutors in certain labs for certain subjects at certain times (some days they're in there for five to seven hours, some days they're in there for just one) but I've been relying mainly upon my boyfriend. Unfortunately, he was sick last night and I missed the last class and am so lost.

Programming isn't something everyone can ace at. Don't be so hard on yourself. You sound like you're passing, don't stress about the 4.0, because programming isn't something you can just study and do well in. If you need to have panic attacks and tears to get that high mark, then that really doesn't say much about your abilities other than that you stress out.

PS are you at UC? Just curious.
