Though no-one was running against me, so it's not that awesome, but I still got the position. As of November 1st I will be Welfare rep for my JCR (junior common room) at my Uni. Woop :) I get a free meal on monday night with the rest of the 08/09 JCR crew, should be fun.

It also means I get to hand out free condoms to people, still not sure where I'll keep the stash though. I actually used LiveWire as a part of my campaign in explaining my experience for the position. Apparently I was really cute :/ They seemed to love my speech too.

Yay! Have any of you been on any JCR positions or something similar at your college or uni?

It means junior common room. It's just a room within our hall where we can socialise, there's a TV, pool table, table tennis, etc. The JCR Committee are comprised of undergraduates that live in that hall, with positions for President, VP, Treasurer, Social Sec, Sports Sec, Welfare Rep. They deal with the JCR budget (£16,000) and how we spend it for the people in the halls. We use the money to improve the hall, spend it on parties and social activities and whatnot. Obviously each speciality deals with their own area and provides info and feedback to the president. Stuff like that.
