Doesn't bother me. I have a passport.

Yeah but it's the principle of what they want to do. They are doing it so that they can get more information on their citizens which they are going to put into a surveillance database.

They are then going to monitor who buys pay as you go phones and possibly wire-tap them to make sure they aren't terrorists.

Again. Unless I suddenly have the urge to become a terrorist, I'm not bothered.

I hope you're the first one to die in the government sponsored death camps.

Or perhaps the last one to die. Whichever is a worse fate.

Because it's the small-minded apathy of cunts like yourself that is resulting in my civil liberties melting faster than the polar ice caps.

I don't know what you are all getting worked up about it's a pile of bullshit. It will never get through the legislature. The commons are tetchy about this kind of crap.

Unfortunately, because there are terrorists lurking about, and crimes happening otherwise, CCTV and a certain level of survelliance is needed. We actually have an extraordinary amount of liberties in this country.
I know - if you think living in the west is that bad, fuck off. Go to a middle eastern country and try bitching about the government. Or a small part of Russia. Maybe Zimbabwe?
You ungrateful, whining bastard.
Unless you have plans to commit crime, you have nothing to worry about.

You think I'm ungrateful because I actually give a shit about preserving the liberties we're lucky enough to have?

I'm whiny because I don't live in abject fear of the statistically irrelevant possibility of getting blown up?

It's just some news to mull over. Somehow I doubt this shit will fly in the House. Crazy stuff is always proposed, most of it doesn't get through.

Come back and talk about it if it does ever pass. It already has lots of opposition anyway: "The proposals have sparked a fierce backlash inside Whitehall. Senior officials in the Home Office have privately warned that the database scheme is impractical, disproportionate and potentially unlawful. The revolt last week forced Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, to delay announcing plans for the database until next year."

Stop overreacting people.

I, for one, am concerned about the LiveWirian response, not the proposal itself.

Statistically irrelevant? 7/7 save us...

Ok, let's have it your way. Let's get rid of this stupid 'ID' stuff.
CCTV? No need for it!
Police records? Get rid of it!

Chaos ensues...

That's the naive and completely idiotic comment that the uninformed say. It's not okay. Saying that I shouldn't be worried if i haven't done anything wrong, isn't the point. The point is they shouldn't be able to intrude on my personal privacy like that. I am guaranteed a right to a private life, and is should be kept that way. Centralised databases are also a massive point of weakness (in terms of security).

Giving away your privacy has never been an option, and never will be.

Intrude on your privacy like what?
Asking you to prove that you are who you claim to be?

So you're concerned about the response of the politically ignorant, naive and pre-pubescent children that probably don't even know how the house of commons and lords function at all? Great.

All the response is showing that they need to be more versed in privacy rights and politics.

52 people died, out of a population of well over 50 million. Statistically irrelevant indeed.

Records for criminals? Great.

Records for law abiding citizens? Fuck off.
