Still, despite its origins in the New World, that doesn't mean that mashed potatoes hasn't been made into a staple food of Europeans, or more broadly, whites.
I got no arguments there but it doesn't make it UNIQUELY or SPECIALLY white.
So cattle farming, and thus beef, pork, and the like aren't exclusively European, but they're still staple products for Europeans.
Sure.
Yeah, I'd say it's bigger over there than it is here
It came from the Middle east.
Still, though, if you think of where all the good wine comes from, it's always in Europe, and perhaps California
Well theres also clilean wine.
I've read studies that cultivating wheat instead of rice has been a major factor in Europe's development with land and machines, and for Asia, its emphasis on hard work for cultivating rice.
Yeah i wouldn't be surprised. Anyway my point was just that bread loaf is really more unique to european/white food than any other staple food. Of course what you answered was springs question which was what "white ppl like" and that I got no beef against. You were right on.

Its more British than white though. I bet a lot of Germans and French are not into that at all. I also bet a lot of Briitsh nonwhites are into it!

I think in my case I just like fatty foods. Screw the government for trying to make people eat healthily.

It doesn't have to be in order for it to be a European staple food.
It came from the Middle east.
Its origins don't really matter, especially in the context of today. The past tends to influence the presence and what kinds of food that cultural group prefers, but since Islam prohibit all alcohol, grape wine completely fell out of use in the Middle East and became more or less exclusively European until more recently when grape wine production and consumption has became a more worldwide thing.

Yeah, I'd list bread, and more spefically bread loaves, as perhaps the most important, and most uniquely, of all European foods. It's the most obvious choice for a good reason. I mainly just mentioned all the other stuff to help keep in mind that there's a lot more food than just bread that's popular among Europeans, and more broadly, whites. This really goes for any culture - Asians eat more than just rice as well, for example. Post edited at 10:45 pm on Oct. 17, 2008 by Bud2400

Well european =/= white necessarily either anyway.
Eh, the way "white" is understood is usually those of European descent, and we're also talking more about culture than race, in which I'm not apt to say that there is a "white culture," but rather, a European derived culture.
When I first read the topic "i read it more as "what food do white ppl like that other races don't like". But you can also read it as "what food do white ppl like MORE than other races"
Well, just because white people tend to favor a food doesn't mean other groups of people would not. Any food that is consumed enough and favored by a culture automatically becomes a staple food of that culture. It doesn't matter where it originated from or whoever else consumes that same product. Take tea for example. When we think of tea, we often think of some old British guys sipping a glass of tea, whereas I know tea is drunk a lot over in East Asia (in fact, most East Asians I know tend to say that British tea, or "white tea," is a flavorless abomination to their tea ). Tea is often perceived as British while simultaneously being Chinese or whatever else. Post edited at 6:22 pm on Oct. 19, 2008 by Bud2400

Well thats why bread is really the one that really most come to mind when I think white/european food. Its staple food. Its been there for thousands of years and its more uniquely part of europe and found in eruope than most other foods.
I know and definitely agree. What makes it even more so is the fact that nearly the whole economy and production of Europe was practically centered around wheat and bread prior to the Black Plague in 1347-51. After that, things diversified a lot more (you had more wine production, people growing different things according to regional specialty, etc. as opposed to primarily just wheat - largely because during the 1300s people were struggling just to produce enough crops and couldn't specialize in wine production or any of that since they would starve if they did so, but after that plague, the population was at a low enough level that it became viable, making the European economy in 1500 much more healthy than in 1300, despite the massive depopulation). That was a long time ago, I know, but bread still dominates despite that agricultural diversification. In fact, of the three major crops in the world - wheat, rice, and corn - Europe still consumes more wheat than anywhere else in the world, even the US. The US, instead, consumes far more corn than anywhere else in the world (and it's certainly true if you look at how much of our food has corn in it - about 1/3 or so, I believe. Even fruits like apples are produced with corn as they use corn syrup to make the apples look shiny). I think if we really want to get specific and talk about white Americans instead of all whites in general, we could include corn in there (which is why I don't like talking solely in terms of a broad "white culture" since there are variations everywhere).
hey I don't! I think more of chinese ppl actually. but maybe bec whenever I go to my Chinese friends their moms always ask if I want tea and at first I was like wtf do I look like I like that stuff and then I realized it was a standard thing for them and so I just smile and say no thanks politely.
Well, I don't really like tea much at all and was mainly speaking of the comments of some of my Chinese friends, although I do have to admit that of the tea I have had, I find British tea to suck. I tend to prefer Chinese or Russian teas, but I rarely ever drink it, so eh.
