I don't get why everyone gets so miffed about this kind of stereotyping.  Fuck, people have misconceptions, it happens.  You guys throw around words like ignorance and the like when it's completely off base.  Ignorance is the unwillingness to learn and blatant disregard of fact despite evidence to the contrary.  Just because someone doesn't know everything about black culture, or even how to deal with normal black people (I mean the ones that don't play out the hip-hop stereotype) doesn't make them ignorant, just misinformed.  So instead of bitching about it, and lumping every poor kid that's ever had a misconception as an ignorant asshat, do some informing.

I live in a fairly diverse area. 40% white, 20% black, and the rest is a mix of hispanic and Asian.

It is not my job to inform everyone of my culture, and nowhere did I say they need to know everything about my culture. But as I said, it frustrates me that the only things people can name about black culture is Martin Luther King, or something negative.

You probably don't face ignorance at every turn, like I do. It does make them ignorant, by your description, and by what I said

I don't act like a product of hip hop culture. I don't threaten to beat people up. And I am not loud. Yet, they are almost expecting me to.

This same group of people, last time, we had to create a rap in class, expected me to just do the whole thing, because I had "experience".

Every poor kid that's had a misconception?

That's their fault, not mine. It's not like there aren't any black people up here. I am also, right here at their disposal. I want them to ask me questions.

However, like I said, my sole mission in life is not educating the masses. I want to live my life, and not be judged.

It really boils down to a matter of respect I think. Respect for cultural differences, as well as other peoples status as individuals. And I think that soulja boy video thing turned out being editted..like his face and shit. But who knows. Rappaz are all over the internet. Turns out Rick Ross was a cop for god's sake.
