Are you people fucking kidding me? How can you seriously get addicted to cutting.... WHAT THE FUCK
Well how do people get addicted to alcohol? Or drugs, or a certain sport...or anything for that matter? They do it cause it helps them, even for a while. It's relaxes them and makes them feel calm. Don't be so quick to judge.
Yeah but those feel good. Don't give me some bullshit like "masking pain with pain gives me relief". I say fuck that.
Cutting feels good too. It helps deal with emotional pain. I remember I had stopped cutting for about three weeks, I was so angry and frustrated through not cutting. Then I cut and as soon as I did I felt so calm and relaxed, nothing bothered me. It's just when you rely on something to make you feel better, it's hard to get out of that. No matter what it is.

Thats not my only "logic".... But clearly they are more enjoyable from my experiences cutting myself on shit at various points in my life, compared to when i'm high and drunk. It doesn't even take "logic" to realize making yourself bleed feels better than being intoxicated.
Ah, but that's where we're different. I have absolutely no way of understanding how losing control of yourself or taking drugs or alcohol could make me feel any better. In fact, I know that all of these things are momentary reliever of pain. However, I'm different from you and even cutting myself on random shit is nice. I no longer cut, and I haven't cut for two years, and I was always a mild and careful cutter. But I liked it. I like pain, and I probably always will. I don't act on it, I have my reasons not to let my emotions get the better of me in these cases, but that desire is still there. Simply put, blood relaxes me. Self-injury is also said to possibly release endorphins, which helps ease the pain. Again, it all depends on stand point, and definitely depression plays a large role in it. Your average person, without depression, wouldn't feel the urge to cut on random occassions when upset.

Using you reasoning to determine why alcohol and drug addiction is justified... let's just say. "Cutting feels good", and by your own logic, that should be enough to determine why people do it.

See I don't drink alcohol, have never smoked or tried drugs. I just don't get how those make anyone feel good. And besides, with those you are still harming yourself. Even more so than cutting.

First I would like to congratulate you on your success in not cutting for that time period. I know that it may have been very difficult but you pulled through without cutting which is great. If possible you could look back on that week and see what it was that kept you from cutting and let that help you in future when you have the urge to cut. If you haven't seen a professional about your cutting I think that now would be a great time to see one. You need to allow others to be able to help you, I know that it may be extremely difficult for you to admit such a thing to someone else but it is something that you may need to do so that someone can be able to help your though this time of need. For the time being, whenever you have an urge to self harm, try getting a book or something and write down exactly how you feel, if you want you can express your feelings in a story or even a poem or a song, you could also have an online journal for this stuff. This usually helps. Post edited at 11:46 am on Sep. 14, 2008 by Seanee
