I don't know much about CPU's even though I'm not completely stupid with computers. I currently have a Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.00GHz on my computer, which uses socket 478.

I can get a 3.2GHz Intel P4 800MHz 1MB CPU for my computer, but would that be that much of a difference?

It's sad, because IE, FF, or any kind of flash uses 99% of my CPU. Watching a Youtube video or visiting a flash website can be hell at times.

Someone please explain this to me. Should I be looking at the GHz or MHz? I just figured it was better because it's a 3.2GHz and mine is a 2.0.

I figure something isn't right if the plugin is using 99% of the CPU. before you swap out processors go in the task manager or use process explorer and figure out what could be exacerbating the plugin.

It's not just flash, though. My processor is 7 years old and isn't working properly, so I think. I tried playing this game called Bridge Construction Set, which came out in 2000 and my computer is a 2001. I use to be able to play it perfectly, but not it seems to slug along. I checked my task manager and it was using 99% of my CPU.

If the CPU is socket 478 and the motherboard can handle it there is no problem with it.

Soc 478 is trash these days, invest $400-500 into an entry level Intel Core 2 duo system.

If I could just go out and get a 500 dollar Intel Core 2 duo system, then I wouldn't be looking for shitty CPU's to improve my computer a little bit.

I want to know if their will be a major or small difference from a 2.00GHz to a 3.0GHz CPU?

THere will be a decent enough gain to make it worth it if cheap enough.

You most likely have something extra running that shouldn't.  My netbook has a 1.6ghz Intel Atom and 1GB DDR2 RAM and it breezes through any web or office oriented task.  Even plays games well enough to play Quake 3, CS 1.6, and Rogue Spear without dedicated graphics.

If you can even find such a CPU, there is no guarantee that it is compatible with your motherboard, and chances are you will end up paying too much for it anyway.
