I have the 30GB iPod video that came out 2 or 3 years ago. The iPod is made for playing videos, and when you watch like an hour and half long movie, it's time to recharge again. Are the newer generations better? Does the battery power last longer?

Ipod batteries are always bad. They start out really good, but they always end up failing after time because they are made that way. It's a marketing scheme by Apple to force you to buy a new ipod every time a new one is released.

That's why i love my creative zen, the battery can last for like 4 or 5 hours playing videos. Before that i had the zen vision m and it wasn't quite as long lasting but it was around 2 or 3 hours of video play.

The new ipods are much better. Even tho they might not play as long as apple claims, it's still longer than the old Videos. And plus it LOOKS better.

This is more of a matter of how long you've been using it for. Batteries do wear away and lose their charge after a time. That said the newer iPods have higher capacity batteries so they will last for longer. But you can't expect the same battery life of an iPod two years later to be the same as when it was new.

This isn't some ploy by Apple, all rechargeable batteries (including the ones in products like Creative Zen, and iRiver players) are susceptible to this. It's just the way they work.
