I've just gone into year 12 and everyone is making a huge deal of how A Levels hard and the jump from GCSEs. And i'm starting to get a little worried. Can you give me some advice on how to get the top grades? Do I need to do a lot of reading? What kind?

Subjects vary in difficult, plus wether you're doing applied/normal makes a huge difference.

well im in year 13 atm...and i would say year 12 is more boring because it is more writing and theroy work, so you may find it dull...but year 13 is better cus you get to do more practical work and go on trips and that

but you really need to revise a hell of a lot other you will end up messing it up and having to do stuff again...i'd just really try, and not worry :)

Maths is insane, I'd be very surprised if your class size didn't half before the end of the year. But, A-levels are a huge jump from GCSE, and one piece of advice, work your ass off for your AS-levels, THESE are the grades that Universities will judge you on. Make a big impression. Also, if you were to get an E in an AS subject, then you'd already have an E grade overall, without sitting the A2 modules. It's best to do as much as you can in year 12, aim high :)

To be honest, you'll find AS Levels easier than your A2s, and the same for the exams.

It is a lot of work, and all you need to really do is manage your time and your work load. Make sure you can get the classwork done, if not finish it off at home. Do the homework and if you have questions make sure to follow up with your teacher. Classes move fast and if you miss something they won't slow down to catch up.

Use your free periods wisely. I can't say that I did most of the time, I just fucked off and played games in them a lot (not that I did badly in my A-Levels or anything). Sometimes I got behind and it kicked me in the ass because I spent the night working on a piece of coursework or cramming for a module test. Spend the time to go through and do your work, or at least some of it and do the rest at home.

Make good notes, these will be an awesome revision guide and highlight things or use coloured pens to accent the more important things.

Make notes. It seems obvious, but it's so, so useful when it comes to the exams. It's not that big a jump really - it's different from GCSE's and you need to focus a lot more, but it's not that much harder at first.

The leap to A2's is a big difference, though.

I found it quite a difference - revise as much as possible.  AS Levels are important as well as A Levels since they count as part of your overall grade
