You need to tell him - he's responsible to you and your unborn child, and you can't let him off the hook just because you don't want to tell him. It's hard, sure, but he has a duty as a father to this baby, and he deserves to know even if you plan on having an abortion.

Normally I think that it's important to give the father a say, but in the case where he's abusive or the relationship is unhealthy, I think that you have to put your safety and the safety of your child in front of "fairness" of him knowing. If you've decided that he's not going to be a good influence in your life or not likely to be a healthy, quality father then it may honestly be best not to tell him at all, as even if you did, it sounds like you would be seeking full custody and no visitation rights for him. Being a single mother is scary but certainly do-able. You may be better off forging that path for now.
