I'm a second year college student, struggling to decide which path to take for my future career.

School started a couple of weeks ago, and I decided to take science courses...Biology, Chemistry, and Physics...thinking I wanted to go the medical route. But I've been in classes for like three weeks now and I realize that the science/medical route isn't something I'd want to do for the rest of my life.

I mean, I WANT to do it because of the money. But I don't because it's just not where my interests are.

If I were going with my interests, I'd pick: Architecture, Interior Design, or possibly Education. But where's the money? As an Architect (which would be my first choice), I could be making an average of about $50-60,000 in just a few years....compared to the $300,000 I could make as a doctor.

I'm just not sure which way to go. I want my family to be proud of me and see that I did something with my life since I'm a first generation college student....and I just don't think that they'll think much of me if I'm not something BIG, like a doctor, lawyer, or business woman!

money and prestige are shitty reasons to major in something and you'll just end up a well-respected, rich depressive

If you're the first generation college graduate, your parents will be proud of you no matter what you do.  Go with what interests you.  Doctors may make 300,000 per year, but it takes more than 10 years of education to get there. I ended up with a degree in business, although my passion is in education.  I'm doing okay, but my head is always looking back to what I could have done with an education degree.

My philosophy has always been too select a job you'd rather do than how much it will pay.  It will keep you happier far longer, trust me on that.

the secret to living a good live is to do what makes you happy.. whatever you do, you have to do it for 40 years, so pick something you enjoy

you need to really, really, be into medicine to succeed at getting through medical school.. Be an architchet.. 50k to start is really, really high and it's a good honorable career.
