I installed Debian on my dad's laptop, and it didn't want to initialize wireless.

I don't know how to get wireless to work, so... Any recommendations on a Linux distribution that will support wireless?

The laptop came with Windows 98 SE preinstalled, but no recovery disk. This computer I'm on came with a recovery disk, but only specifically for this computer.

Did you try getting Ndiswrapper and installing the windows wireless drivers through that?

LinuxMint has Ndiswrapper pre-installed if you can't figure out installing it (not hard, but if...).  Wireless can always be a challenge with Linux.
