Being black and a first generation college grad do help you, but being a female works against you because more females apply and do well in college, and therefore easily reach the college's female quota, than males.

Also, being 8th in your class is amazing if you have more than 100 people in your class, and what you consider average SAT score may not be average. I have friends who consider 1800/2400 to be average but the national average is actually around 1500. It all depends on your perspective.

being black will help her significantly more than being female will hurt her.
