When I started cutting, i promised myself i would only do it when i'm having a terrible day or when i am extremely stressed. NOW, i find myself doing it when I "crave" the feeling, and i can't stop...i'm terrified as to what might happen. I have an eating disorder too, so i tend to switch back and forth sometimes, using both of them to "cope" with my life.

I had no idea that it would be this addicting though. I can't go more than a day without cutting, it honestly does scare me. It makes me wonder how i am going to end up as an adult. Although I am going into a partial hospitalization program soon...

Has anyone been hospitalized for being suicidal?

Yeah, it is addicting. and i wish i had known that back when i first started. we all make that promise to ourselves, but we very seldom keep it. it starts out as only when you have a bad day. then it turns into everytime you feel bad. everytime your hurting or anything else. honestly, i wish i had known how much i would like it before i actually started.

I suggest you go and try to find someone to talk to, that will really help you get better. you can talk to a parent, family friend, or there are tons of people at school you can talk to. take care hun.

Cutting is just like any other addiction. You have to go through a process to recover. It's not easy, and it takes time. As well as your eating disorder, it's going to take time and help of others to help you fully recover. When you cut, you're risking your life. It's dangerous to cut, especially as much as you've described. You can get germs and bacteria into those open wounds and you could loose that body part, permanantly. It's good that you've realized you need professional help. It's the best thing to do. Meanwhile what you could do to keep yourself from cutting is wear a rubber band on your wrist. Everytime you think about cutting, you pop yourself. It's what alot of counsellors and therapist suggests as a replacement to people who feel the need to cut themselves when life gets hard.

Also, keep your mind occupied on other things to keep you from thinking about cutting. It helps.

Also, I found these steps to help stop cutting, hope they help:

Tell someone you trust about your feelings. This is one of the hardest steps. Chances are, if you've been hiding out for months, or maybe even years, and covering up all of your problems, it is going to be very difficult to suddenly open up. However, confiding in somebody who is trustworthy will be well worth it; they will be able to give you advice, support, help you understand your emotions, and be an alternative outlet rather than cutting. Don't be discouraged if they seem shocked, scared, or maybe even horrified. Of course it will have a massive impact on them. Wait for the person to come to terms with the situation. However, always be sure to confide in someone who you know will help you. Telling someone who will make your situation worse is a bad idea (and seriously, these people exist).

Talk to this person whenever you have the urge to cut. When you feel like cutting yourself, confide in a teacher, school counselor, parent, friend, relative, etc. If they don't know about your current struggle, tell them about it and tell them you need their help.

Remove cutting tools from your immediate area. If you have time to search for something to cut yourself with, you may just be able to crush the impulse. One minute can determine whether or not you self harm. Don't keep sharp objects on your table, and don't put razors in a close drawer or cupboard. If you do not yet feel able to throw out your tools, try to delay getting to them by keeping them wrapped up tightly and high up on hard-to-reach shelves, and try to distract yourself when you get the urge.

Express your emotions. For example, when you feel like cutting, try doing one or more of the following:
Drawing or scribbling on paper
Painting, on white paper
Get a punch bag or somesort, relieve your anger on it
Listening to music that relates to your emotions
Squeeze ice cubes untill they melt.
Writing down your emotions in a diary/journal
Writing songs/poetry
Call a friend

And last but not least, Love yourself. If you hate yourself there's a good chance you want to hurt yourself when you feel bad. No matter what anyone else tells or or what you think they think about you, you should love yourself. When you love someone, you don't hurt them. Love yourself and don't hurt yourself.

I have not been hospitalized, no.
I tend to keep those type of things private or deny.

I hope that helps you though.
