talk about what is bothering you, write about it, and rubber bands do help

i had that problem for a long time and i am convinced it is an addiction.just throw away anything you might cut w/ even if you dont want to and get a TRUSTED friend(someone whos been there and done that but wont rat you out to anyone)to watch over you                peace and</3's----sami aka tatteredheart666

all i can really give you is the general advice given to anyone in your situation, so sorry if it sounds rabbited out...I don't mean it to. Firstly there's talking to someone, it's always the cliched thing to say "talk to someone. it helps" but maybe instead of taking it as the cliche you should try it? there are people out there who can help proffesionally, or a friend/family member who can offer you support on a more personal level. also calling a helpline such as childline (08001111 >> in the UK- if you're in the US I think there are other helplines listed on this site) could help you get some things off your chest?
Also writing your feelings down maybe? Using that as an alternative release to cutting. [As with the rubber band/Ice cube method, but healthier..]
Taking every day as it comes seems like an obvious one too, but really sometimes doing that does help. Try not cutting for one day...and then two days...and such like.

Ultimately in the end you have to be ready to stop cutting. If it's become such a regular thing for you, it can sometimes make things worse by just stoppnig altogether one day [of course it can work for some people] But if that doesn't work do just make it a gradual thing...have something to think of every time you want to cut, to try and stop you...

I've rambled for long enough anyway, If you need to chat feel free to message me. Take care xxx

wow i feel like i'm replying to myself... um i don't really know what to tell you, except, forcing yourself to stop if you're not ready is possibly as bad an idea as having started in the first place. what i do is, evey time i want to cut i think about whether i really want to cut, or if i would actually prefer to talk to someone, if it's possible. that way, it kinda helps me feel a bit more in control of my cutting, even though i guess i'm not really. but still. i hope this helps a little if not... idk good luck

wow...those are interesting...im gonna try those.
Poker Shark Posted at 9:07 pm on Mar. 4, 2007
you should. with the rubber band method you get a thick rubber band, put it around your wrist, pull it back and let it snap against your wrist. with the ice cube method you get an ice cube and hold it against ur wrist until it burns.
