On thursday, my sister came home from school and told me that two people (within walking distance from my home) had been stabbed that day. I was non- pulsed, it didn't even register as someting out of the ordinary. But here's the thing, I live in a middle- class suburb... there are just a few estates around me.

I used to carry a knife as I had a very dodgy boyfriend and could not trust his friends... I no longer do but regularly walk through 'unsafe' areas. The thing is, you totally have to avoid anyone of teenage age whilst you are out because we (they?) all carry knives or know people who do.

My brother-in-law was convicted for G/ABH a few years ago (allegedly he stamped a guy's head in) so that gives me some level of 'protection' but for god's sake, I'm hardly in 'the ghetto'!I live in a middle class area and attend an all girl's school!

Does anyone else feel this ridiculous? How is 'knife crime' in your area? Do you feel you need to carry a weapon?

I live in a city - so it's pretty rough. I think nothing of smashing someone if they piss me off. But I don't carry a knife. I don't want to kill anyone.

only one time when I went jogging early in the morning when it was still dark and I felt scared.. I know I thought about it anyway, can't remember if I actually did. nothing I would do normally though like those people who carry one in daylight down a normal street or whatever

Yeah same here you shouldn't really on such things like weapons. The only one's you need are your bare hands.

I don't know anyone who carries around knives. It's just not normal in New Zealand.

There's nothing here, but I always used to carry a switchblade, up until it broke. Just to be safe, 'cause I've seen some really fucked up people before, and I don't really trust anyone that I don't know personally.

My neighborhood feels relatively safe. I definitely don't feel a need to carry a weapon.

it's stupid, it's completely illegal to carry a knife unless you have good reason (like being a chef with your own knives) i do understand that, but what if you're scared and want it for self-defence? you're not allowed to use it for self-defence, so you're jsut meant to stand there and let someone stab you...possibly kill you?
