MOSCOW, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry is opposed to a military solution to the Iran nuclear issue, local media reported on Monday.

The use of force is "unacceptable and useless," said the ministry, slamming an Israeli senior official's threat of the use of force against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Political negotiation is the only solution for the Iran nuclear issue, Itar-Tass news agency cited the ministry as saying.

Last week, Israeli Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz said that Israel will attack Iran if Tehran continues to pursue its nuclear program in defiance of objections from Israel and the international community.

The United States has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the U.S. charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

hmm you know this could be bad, if Israel Goes ahead to attack facilities anyways, and Russia sides with Iran and we of course Side with Israel, and Europe sides with us. We could have WW3 on our hands, doubtful it happens but it's entirely possible.

You assume much to believe that Europe will side with the US. The eastern bloc is just as important in European affairs these days, and chances are Britain would just split from the EU and be the only ones supporting yankland. If you're lucky.

I'd imagine that the Europeans would do what they could to not get involved if they're smart, all the while probably condemning the US and remaining suspicious of Russia.  It is pretty foolish to believe that the Europeans would fully back the US on anything, as if it were still the Cold War (and even then, Western Europeans did what they could to assert their independence from the US).  These types of Americans don't seem to understand that Europe isn't always our friend and has their own interests, too, and moreover that Europe consists of many different entities with many different interests and are not totally united.

The only European countries I see actually supporting the US in such a situation is the UK and Poland, although you'd probably find some sympathizers among other European nations depending on how pro-US their governments are.

Tbh, Israel stands no chance against Iran without using its nukes.

Here's a little interesting fact on Shaul Mofaz's background. From what I've read, he was actually born in Tehran, Iran. This is ironic because this is coming from a person who is essentially threatening his own native country.

what country you are born in means nothing

Russia is just jerking Iran off and whispering sweet nothings into Ahmadi-Nejad's ear.

They just want hostility and nationism against the Western world because they know it's the only way to motivate their country to actually work.
