I learned to control my stuttering sometime around 6th grade (also due in part because reading out loud wasn't such a big thing anymore) so I haven't been humiliated since then, but I still always get these moment where I just can't say ANYTHING. It'll be like, "I went to the mall yesterday and bought a pair of ................ shoes."

And it's awful.

I've got a mandatory public speaking class this coming fall for my first year of college and I hear how there are timed speeches and all that. I'm so scared. What if I get blocks all over the place? What if I can't control my stuttering because of my nervousness?

These days, whenever I slip up and I have a block and people have to try and guess the word or when I do just stutter outright, I always think of those times before 6th grade when everyone would laugh and make fun of me and my teachers would tell me to slow down or get this impatient look on their face or skip me to read the next part in the story.

I don't want that to happen in college. I couldn't bear it.

In college ideally people would recognize stuttering as something you cant really help and probably wouldnt laugh.
