He seemed perfect. Blond hair, brown eyes, lovely boyish smile. Likes to read, very sweet. But he drinks and I don't like that...

Okay, in England, the drinking age is 18, and most of my friends have been drinking since they were 14 or 15. It's really not a big deal if they drink occasionally, seriously. There are more important things to worry about.

lol, I don't think I'd date a guy who DIDNT drink (because he's probably be waaaaay too conservative for me). Seriously, get the fuck over it. most people drink, it's not really a big deal.

That's definitely a terrible way to judge this guy.

You should probably get to know him and discover the good things about his personality before you judge him by something most people do.

It'll be hard for you to find a non-drinking male in life, anyway. There simply aren't many of them.

Just don't be so judgmental, k?

Its just alcohol, accept him for the person he is, not the beverages he consumes..
how is that not part of the person he is?

The act of consuming a beverage be it non-alcoholic or alcoholic is something we all do its a benign activity.  It is the way the person acts under the influence that gives you a true judge of ones character.

In essence, so is everything else.  Drinking gives a valid insight into someone's character.  If you don't like people that like to fuck up their perception for the sake of a good time, it's making a judge of someone's character based on what you like and don't like.  To think that is invalid is seriously flawed.

Hardly.  So if I have a beer after work I am "fucking up my perception for the sake of having a good time?"

I honestly, rarely judge people, and when I do it doesn't stop me from getting to know them.
so you'd either date anybody or nobody, basically?

 I have preferences...

and they're all valid preferences? somehow more valid than whether or not somebody drinks a certain thing?

More along the lines of I like blondes but I'll date a brunette...

it's up to you. if the drinking's the only thing that bothers you, i don't think you should totally knock him back for that.

there's a difference between use and abuse.

get to know him and his habbits more, then decide.
