Hebrews 13:1-8 "1. LET brotherly love continue.
2. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.
3. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also.
4. Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
5. Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
6. So we may boldly say:
"The LORD is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?"
7. Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.
8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
Those 8 little verses have so much in them. First of all, it's hard to believe that you could entertain an angel by loving someone and doing what is right. Just think of it...... An angel could be absolutely anyone. The homeless guy on the street corner or a person that walks by you. We are surrounded by angels, we just don't see them for that. We accept that everyone around us are normal people.
Secondly, what's with all the mistreated people? Yes, we are set apart by spirit, but we still have a body. We are still in flesh and blood. You need to be understanding with the people who are being hurt. Have you ever been mistreated? I used to know this girl when I was little in Girl Scouts.... Angelina was very pretty, was the same age as the rest of us and wasn't really different, but she was the newbie in the group. The rest of us in the group were already well acquainted and all of us could have easily gotten along with any one of the others, except Angelina. Well, I'd been nice to her, but never took the time out to actually get to know her. One of the field trips was to Sea World, and of course we all were going, but Angelina was keeping to herself knowing that no one really liked her. The other girls were being jerks to her and that's one thing I won't stand for so I took her under my wing, so to speak, and I befriended her. She was actually really sweet. I still don't understand why someone can be so mean to a sweet person.
Anyways, the point of me telling you this is don't forget that you could've been or already have been in another person's shoes. Love on them.
Now, to a touchy subject..... Marriage and adultery. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge." -Verse 4
Right there it says that sex within the bed of marriage is fine, but anything out of marriage isn't. I know too many people who have had sex with their boyfriend/girlfriend. Are they married? NO! Not to mention you are wasting yourself on too many people because you are not married you have no real commitment. Most likely when they're done, they will be out of there and off to go take someone else's innocence. Plus, are you really planning to stay with that person? Probably not.... You probably have no forethought of what you actually are doing. Please think. Marriage is the way to do things right. Know this and follow.
"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you.""
Do you really need anything other than Jesus? I must say from experience, no. Everyone will eventually betray or leave you. Everyone will hurt you in some way. Anything you have is passive. You probably won't have anything you have now in another 20 years. You know what isn't passive and won't leave or betray you? JESUS! Believe it or not, you need Him!
"So we may boldly say:
"The LORD is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?"" -Verse 6
This kind of goes with verse 5. If you have Jesus, then we know we have nothing, absolutely NOTHING to fear. A wise man once said, "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.". I truly believe that. If we have fear of anything else than we know we do not have God's strength. God's strength will carry you through anything.
"Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct." -Verse 7
The elders that give you instruction and do the same themselves, watch how that turns out. You know that they are right if it is Biblical and it goes right for them... Respect them please, they are MUCH wiser than you.
And my favorite verse out of all of this, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Aw, what a sweet relief. To know that Jesus will never change and that He will always be there for me, it really helps to know that. I'm so glad I have God. If I didn't I don't know where I would be. Actually, yeah I do, I'd probably would've had my heart broken 10 times over and been out partying. I'm not kidding. Luckily, through the power and strength that God has given me, I don't have to worry. I don't have to worry about anything, because I have given it to God. All of my problems were taken from me at the foot of the cross. I'm not perfect, but that is why I need Jesus. The reason any of us need Jesus is because we have problems. If I were perfect I wouldn't, so you people who say you're not good enough, it has nothing to do with being good.
I leave you with this.
"Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."
Please remember you do not have to be good enough. No one is.
