Hello everyone. First of all, my name is Tara. I go to a community college in New York. A SUNY school to be exact. And I have a few questions about transferring, when I get all required courses done of course. Anyway, I got suck in some Developmental courses, that are required at my college. So it might take more than two years before I am finally able to transfer. Well depending on whether I decide to take some some classes. But all of that is sort of beside the point. I want to Transfer to SUNY Purchase or Purchase College if you will. And I was curious to see how difficult it is to get accepted in as a transfer. Right now I'm taking 12 credits, the minimum at my school. Two of which are required and will not count towards my GPA. I will just obtain either a pass or fail. Any the other two I will get grades for. But my problem is I'm not doing so well in my Economics class, and I'm fearful I might fail. What I really want to know is how much will this F hurt me when it's time to transfer. Right now my major is Liberal Arts-English to be exact. I want to transfer into either a Creative Writing major or Literature major. I just really would like to know where I stand. Any help would be very much appreciated!
-Tara

if you think your gonna get an f then drop that class while you still can. most schools have a drop-out deadline where if you meet the deadline date-your drop will not show on your record, where as if you drop after the deadline you get a U or D or whatever your school uses. F's will hurt you so much, especially if its in one of the classes that gets credited for transfer points. I got an F in my accounting class my freshmen year (last year), and even though ive been getting a's and b's in all of my classes ever since-I still only have a 2.8. I'm gonna have to retake it even though its not mandatory for my new major because of my gpa score. If you do fail the class your only choice is to re-take it. Colleges dont like f's. But they do like transfer students. Most colleges pick people from the transfer list before the list of people that just got out of highschool with a bunch of AP classes under their belt.

Please, just don't get an F. How hard is it to maintain an A in a liberal arts-english class? If your dream is to major in creative writing or literature, work harder at it!
