This might sound weird because I'm a guy and this might all seem catty, but allow me to vent. There's this guy, let's call him "Dan", whom I can't stand.

I've known Dan since freshman year since he lived right across the hall. Dan ingratiates himself in a lot of social circles. He's a social butterfly, but not a pack leader type. In other words, he's more likely to offer color commentary than initiate discussion on his own.

I'd like Dan if I saw him once in a while, but one of the circles he's ingratiated himself to is my own, and whenever I make plans or have fun ideas (I'm more a pack leader and organizer type), I feel obligated to include him because I feel like everybody else likes him. I can't openly give him any kind of cold shoulder because he'll be around anyways, and it'll create awkward tension. Besides, he's mostly a decent guy, in moderate doses.

Thing is, I don't think I'm alone in thinking this. It's very easy to get along with Dan because he's good at holding conversation, but to me and a few others, we don't appreciate his, how shall I put it, cloyingness? It's good to have lots of friends and acquaintances, but a man's gotta show his loyalty, and Dan is not good at that.

If you got the impression that Dan is a smooth, good-looking charmer, then I painted the wrong portrait. Dan is actually quite ugly and likes to wear grey t-shirts and raggedy shorts. I don't know why he pisses me off, but he just does.

Anybody else ever have someone they felt they hated irrationally?

Oh yes, there's a "Dan" in every school.

Me though, I just ignore anyone I don't like. Internally I want to tell the to GTFO, but I lack the balls to do so.

If you can't 'stand to be around someone', then how are they defined as your friend?
Desertborn Posted at 7:08 pm on Aug. 3, 2008
deff. but it sounds like you'd be better off just asking your other friends what they think. sounds like a werido to me

Yes and then I began to gain reason to finding them annoying
