My friend just emailed me this long story about how she got an apartment with 2 of her friends (the one girl is like her best friend).  And she is already angry because none of the roommies offered to pay for utilities:

"Umm, utilities are not provided in my apartment so my roomies and I had to set up utilities on our own. So I set up ALL! the utilities under my name so that I knew they would get done. So I waited until I was up at school to do internet. (Kind of hoping my roomies would help out and take on some of the responibilities.) So I kept hinting and hinting and they still didn't do anything and when I called Sept. 17th was thesoonest they could come. It kinda blows but it's okay. The thing that has been pissing me off is the fact that my roomies have been complaining about the lack of internet when they could have done and it (heaven forbid taking care of one utility when I'm in charge of 5). I don't know I get it next Wed. so that will be nice."

I'm worried cause she never actually SAID how she is upset to her roomies...she is just waiting til they get the hint but I think this might be a bad idea.

Do you foresee big problems with roommates in the future who dont communicate like this??

PS - her best friend has a boyfriend who is attached to her hip.  He is REALLY against drinking and alcohol...but the other roomies might want to have a drink here or there...could that be a problem for all for all of them?

Wow, she is going to be in for some deep crap if she doesn't address her concerns to them. I don't think it's stupid that she has it under her name, but I do think it's stupid that she's been taking it upon herself to get everything for the apartment.

She needs to lay down the law and tell them that utility bills and other bills need to be divided.

They say that friends who are roomies often don't stay friends. Its hard to live with someone else. I am in a similar situation where I have paid for everything in my apartment and my roomie hasn't done anything.
However, I have told him I've very pissed off and we've worked out an agreement.

Your friend needs to talk to these room-mates and explain why she is upset. Now, are they actually not PAYING for this stuff or just didn't call to get it installed? I have to say your room-mate is a bit daft to put everything under her name... since if they chose NOT to pay then she's pretty much in trouble.

The boyfriend thing shouldn't be a problem.
