I'm not a weird guy by any means, although I do admit to being easily intimidated by meeting new people and making new friends. Self confidence was always an issue in high school, but I've come a long way since then. Sometimes I probably think about things too much. Also, I had gone to school with the same kids my whole life, so I never had to worry about making new friends. Alright, I started college in the fall and so far I seem to have a lot of acquaintances, but don't seem to have many close friends yet. I think that one of the problems I have is that I don't have much in common with anyone in my hall, so I have to go to other buildings to find friends. The people that I've met outside my builing seem to like me, but I struggle to find ways to hang out with them because they have different groups of friends and I feel like I'm not totally welcome when I just walk into their hall and knock on their doors to talk. I feel the same way about calling them. I have their numbers, but I fear that they might think it's weird if someone who isn't really a good friend is calling them to hang out on a weekend. Am I irrational to think this way? Would you think if you were in either of our shoes?? Any advice you can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Replies Samnoel Posted at 7:38 pm on Jan. 8, 2006 "Just call them.. it will be fine", in my case, is much easier said than done.  I find myself in your shoes.  I'm a freshman at college as well, and also have many acquaintances who have given me their numbers, but I have yet to call.  I'm very lonely due to the lack of friends, though I can't seem to muster up the courage to give anyone a call.  Chances are, the other people might actually be thinking "Sam's a cool kid, i should give her a call," but they may be too shy to make the first move as well. I do have one good friend in college.  We were talking one day, he gave me his number, and I gave him a call.  We hung out and became friends. I say, go for it.  Give whoever you want to a call.  Most people tend to be flattered if they get a call like that anway, so there's no harm in trying. good luck! guitarist451 Posted at 8:04 pm on Jan. 6, 2006 just chill. sometimes I think about things too much too but if they like you they wont think you're wierd for wanting to be friends with them. as long as you arent annoying. And if they do think your weird, it doesn;t matter, it's not like you have to go hang out with them. It's a win-win!
