well im going to be a freshmen in college next fall. Theres a lot of hype about going away for college such as having a lot of fun, meeting new people, finding yourself, blah blah. Do you think it all lives up to its hype? Is going away for college that great of an experience???

I've definitely learned a lot (I'm in my second semester and am currently going to school out of state) but it's been tough. Then again, my freshman year has, thus far, been a rather unusual one.

I think it's a mixture -- fun and hard work. If you're smart, you won't be out partying every night or goofing off all day because it'll make studying pure hell.

I agree with Ladybird. If your parents are loaded and will pay for everything so you dont have to pinch pennies and work and can afford to go socializing all the time, then college can be one big party, otherwise youll have to sacrifice a lot of said partying. Also, if youre living in a dorm style environment, try it for a year or two, but then get the hell out before the people really wear you down. This is especially true if you are mature for your age or find it difficult to mix with people. I may be generalizing here, but I found that the maturity of people in my dorm type residence was lower than that of people in my last year of high school, and it got worse each year! If you arent on the same maturity level, they will seriously piss you off after a while. Thats all the advice I got, good luck and I hope you have fun!

depends who you are. if the type of person all outgoing and socailizing YES if your the good student/ and work to pay everything. . . .  NO. but then again things balence back and forth. right now i'm enjoying myself, but i really do miss my family even though they are an hour away, oh yeah. . . you also don't get the "parents" which can suck if you're sick. you get to take care of yourself, instead of having your mother make yeah suck down the nyquil fast.... lol.... i miss that.

In my opinion, college is only the "best time of your life" if you are a social butterfly.  If you're a loner, it can just be like school without people acting out in class.

Really,  your freshman year can be the best...after a year or two of college, you have to get more serious, but can still have fun. Enjoy your first year as much as possible
