well, my room mate brought over a friend, who is a mutual friend.

thing is, I didn't mind one day, since I enjoy his company, but now, it's been two days, and he just sleeps.  I don't want to be rude, since I've been a room mate here for only 3 weeks...but I need some alone time to clean the house and arrange furniture.

he's asleep right now(the guest), so I'm not gonna wake him.  but I can't start cleaning with him here...it's just rude to clean while guests are around.  but I can't say "hey, I need you to leave."

what is a polite way to say I need him to go home or somewhere.  I do need to clean and re-arrange furniture...

It's your room, too, and you have every right to discuss with your roommate your situation.

One thing fish and guests have in common, they begin to stink after three days.

If you just want to clean and arrange, let them know that you need to clean and arrange but don't want to be rude about it. They'll either get out of the way for you or leave. Either way you let them know what was up and said it nicely so they won't think anything of it. You're only as rude as he thinks you are and if you're cool about it he will be too.

true, that would work and give me enough time to clean...if my room mate was ever home.  my room mate is out all the time. so it's just been me and the guest...

Talk to your room mate, or if all you want him gone so you can clean is just get your room mate to take him out for a few hours.

tell your friend that he and the guest should go to the movies, mall, or something else. it'll get them away for a while.
