He's super intelligent too.  he knows all sorts of physics, and even explains things I don't know in very wonderful details.  I just want to tell him. it sucks though, because we've only lived together for about a week...and I don't want to seem like I'm rushing.   How would I ask him the hard to ask questions(he's gay too btw)?  I mean, I want to know about his favorite foods, favorite films, what annoys him, what makes him smile(I know that much already, though)....I don't want to lose him as a friend at least, so I just don't want to ask and say the wrong thing.

If not then you could bring it up by telling him first. I would advise that it is best for you to just ask him even though there is a possibility that he may take it as an insult.
