i want to go to NYU, but thats a tough school. last year and hopefully the next two years ill be going back to my second school, where onyl the srtistically gifted are acepted and major in creativ wirint g (like i have last year). i got like 2 thinsgs published last year...and this year, desptite me trying so much more than i ever have, ive just been rejected over and over again. the ny press wanted me for an internship, but NOOO i couldnt get it cuz i lkike in CT.
anyway, NYU, i really love that college, and lots of others, but i just see so much doom on my horizon becuase i dont know how the hell ill get in with my performance so far and my going to be not so great Sats...and the financial aspect and OMG i worry myself sick about this.
i hate how my parents are always up in my case.
i want to get the fuck away from home. anywhere. but i have no $$ and my parents cant spend all that much (like $10000 on study abroad? NOO) even for colelge, i want to take a gap year and go see the world. but my parents wont let me take a job during the school year. and i need money. what the fuck do i do
The only way to do this is to spend this summer at a community college and take different credits like biology, calculus etc.
As for me, I don't know yet.. My GPA is 3.83 with 1 AP =(
Not to put you down or anything, but you're going to have to REALLY bring your GPA up to even consider applying there unless you have a 2400 on the SAT or something.
You need to pull your grades up before studying abroad. Most programs won't take you unless you have a 3.0 and others won't take you unless you have a 3.5. Plus, it's hard to get scholarships for them. It's possible, but you'd have to be very statistically competitive with GPA and classes and such.
What I'm trying to say, is apply to the schools you and what your parents want you to apply to. Also, you never know exactly if you will be accepted until you apply. My friend applied to OU with 2.4 gpa and thought it would be impossible. And yes, she got accepted. She was smart, she had a backup college just in case that didn't work out.
make a deal with them--tell them how much you detest them controlling your life, and say you'll apply to the ivy, but have them let you apply EA/ED to NYU, your chances will be much better.
there is a surprising amount of fin. aid out there, so you shouldn't make your decision based on it.
stick to your strengths but make sure you look well rounded. the majority of good schools won't take a look at your freshman year grades (i found out from a yale admissions officer--shhh, it's a secret), so your GPA should be higher. PM if you need, i've read so many books on the college admissions process that i've had people come to me instead of our school's CCRC--college & career resource center.
HA--stupid school, you lose.
