For anyone who is or was an RA before, I have a question about people in the job.

Did you ever work with RAs who frankly did not know what they were getting themselves into?  Especially RAs who were replacing people who left suddenly and who were not originally chosen during selection process?

I know of a guy who did not get the job, but there is a chance he will if someone else leaves.  I get the feeling he doesn't care that much about it.  He never really attends many events on campus, so programming will definitely be a shock for him.

My guess is that these type of people are going to screwed when it comes time to work...esp. starting with hardcore training in the summer before classes start.  For people who simply wanted to get a job for the money or free housing or cause it looks good on a resume or cause they just felt like it ("O I'm living in the dorm again so I might AS WELL be an RA"), do you believe they will be unpleasantly surprised?
And also, do you think they deserve the agony/work?
