I have never had a pap smear, but have gone with my mom and she has explained what it consists of. Right now, I have a huge anxiety problem which I am trying to control with medication.   My mom had ovarian and uterine cancer, so my doctor is sending me to a OB/GYN to get a pap smear. I can't do it. I don't trust doctors at all and this isn't something you can bring a friend to for support. I had a situation where I was raped and molested as a child, and if I go, I think I will have a panic attack. I am already having great distress. But I have to go to make sure my likelihood of me getting ovarian and uterine cancer and to make sure I don't get it. I don't know what to do. I am really upset. I don't think I can handle that situation. What should I do? Please don't say, "Just go and get it over with!", you guys really don't understand what a problem this is. If you ever had a panic attack, I think you would understand more.

Telling yourself that will only make it harder. As tough as it seems, try to stay optimistic. I understand that. But think of it this way: If you don't get it checked, and you DO have something...you would never know and it could get worse. And when I had mine done because I became sexually active...it only lasted like 2 minutes... Honey, If you were raped and molested OF COURSE you feel that way, It's totally natural. Maybe if you closed your eyes? Or had a close girlfriend come with you? That's what I would do.
