| I became religious several times (well, that's not entirely accurate; I became religious once, and then later converted to two different religions). Most of those times I was still an atheist; the two are not incompatible. What made me go from non-religious to religious was the discovery of religions that weren't based on faith, dogma, or supernaturalism and that, at the times I participated in them, helped to expand and ground my understanding of the world. |

You have to pretty much be afraid for whats gonna happen to you after you die... That's a starting point. then look at something that doesnt completely screw you over. But then again, what doesnt? You can try my beliefs if you want. Just an offer. |

See I'm probably considered a Deist in that I think some intelligence planed the universe but I just can't get myself to believe in a god, and I've studied every religion I can.
If you're a deist then doesn't that mean that you believe in some higher power, even if it isn't there any more? (Unless, of course, you aren't the OP. In which case disregard this). |

| I agree. The best way is to either talk to someone else that is religiously affiliated, and have them explain their beliefs. Figure out what works for you and what doesn't. For me it's Catholicism, but you just gotta find your niche. I firmly believe a higher power has to exist, But you just gotta find it for yourself. |

Read the bible. That will help once you study the word and get your nose into the book it will all come clear to you. Its not the point though of just being religious. It's the point that you have to live for God as the bible says once you repent of your sins and baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and being filled with the Holy Ghost every thing changes. Dont just believe in what everyone tells you though get it for yourself. Read the word(the Bible) and pray that God will give you a revelation of what it means.
I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that that definitely will not help him. |

| How about checking out different cultures and learning about different religions through talking to different people? If its not for you don't go for it... |

| People convert by believing. If you don't believe, you can't make yourself... |

| Who knows? I became religious because atheism and agnosticism didn't feel quite right. So I settled somewhere between Christianity and Unitarian Universalism and now I'm comfortable. But some people just don't believe and that's cool. I would never try to convert somebody. |
