| It depends where, I guess. Most likely you will need a Masters degree in line with the subject you're going to teach. If you don't like little kids, you can teach in high school or college. I'm a teacher, by the way. |

| Okay there is a LOT of misinformation on this board. I know the topic is a bit old now, but it could use some "truthiness". To teach, you must have a Bachelor's degree. It can generally be in any subject. Then, you must earn a teaching credential (Single Subject to teach Junior High or High School, Multiple Subject for elementary). This involves either having passed enough classes in the subject you want to teach or passing a standardized test in that subject. You must also pass a general test on reading, writing and math. The teaching credential courses are education related, not specific to a subject. Then you must Student Teach (or in some cases be a teaching intern) at a school at the level you hope to teach at. For private schools, more often than not you do not even need a teaching credential. Many privates hire people just with Bachelor's (though some do require the credential). For this reason many private schools actually pay LESS than public schools do. So parents are paying for teachers who often has less experience and education. Crazy? Maybe a little. Usually you would get a Masters a few years after you start - because it will increase your pay. But if you are applying for jobs already with a Masters some schools will be reluctant to hire you because you will cost them more. If you don't love your subject and the children, you may want to consider other careers. Perhaps teaching inservices for businesses or something else where you get to utilize teaching but not with children? Or become a professor? |

| In my state, you need your bachelors as well as a Masters in teaching. That's 4-6 years of school, depending how many credits you take a quarter. |

it says your from Zimbabwe so surely there are different requirements there than in where ever it is everyone else is from. So this is really the wrong place for you to look, find a guidance counselor or something
Now I'm from Antarctica. I guess I moved. huh.
No need to be smart about it. I was only tryin' to be helpful
Not very helpful when your advice is trivial at best. |

| Education specific obviously... talk a guidance counselor at your school or at a university you're planning to attend... |

To be a public school teacher? I think all you need like a 2-year degree from one of those colleges they advertise during daytime talk shows and late night sitcom reruns.
if u have higher aspirations and would like to teach in a private school for the MONEY.
Oh, then you're going to need like 6 years in an actual college.
You would need masters too. Hmmm. Any masters or something education specific? |

Lots of College.
Actually no. Starting teachers generally don't want more than a Bachelor's degree as they require more pay and fewer schools will be willing to hire them. |
