My friend in my course knows a guy in England who is an IT Consultant and earns 1,000 pounds an hour. He has several contracts including one from the government. He has two houses in Britain and one in Jamaica. If I got a job like that I'd be sorted. :-)

It could be per hour. Most IT contractors get paid a retainer, then they are paid additional whenever they do extra work. The IT consultant that my they use where my dad works, they pay him 2k a month, and he hardly ever shows up, since they have two on site IT guys. Take in consideration that one could do that for 8-10 companies, plus get paid extra whenever you put in more than an hour or so. The money builds fast.
