So now I'm trying to do something rewarding with my time before I go back to college for my sophomore year in the Fall.

Last summer I volunteered for Hands On Disaster Response in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Volunteers were given a home (a big new church) and were provided with meals. I met a lot of interesting people, had fun, helped people out, and was content with my time spent there.

I'm willing to travel anywhere in the country. I'm looking for a good job or volunteering opportunity that won't drain me fiscally.

Anyone here have any experience or ideas?

What about doing Habitat for Humanity or something like that?
