allsmiles>scottyrob.

Smile's is correct, Scotty.

So yeah, you don't know shit.

Perl is the language, CGI is the interface.

Grow up.. Pair of amateurs :D
allsmiles Posted at 1:39 pm on July 20, 2008
Let me reassert my correction, for I got that information from the realm of facts.

CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. I don't believe you've coded in it, because such a language does not exist for you to use. Amateur.

scottyrob Posted at 3:27 pm on July 19, 2008
Let me correct you again..

Where the hell did you get that information from?

CGI Is a scripting language and how do i know that? Because ive coded in it before!

Amateur...

And JSP is on Linux too...

EDIT: Obviously im wrong.. Ignore the fact that i have... I know nothing what so ever.. You know everything.. That make your big head happy?

Forums, guestbooks, contact forms etc etc are not in HTML they are ussually in another language, ussually PHP or CGI. WYSIWYG cannot possibly create every single thing there is on the web nor can it code every single language.

Let me correct this. CGI is not a programming language, it's an interface for languages. Dynamic content's usually created with PHP, Perl or Python. That is, on a *NIX OS. On Windows you've the additional options of asp and jsp. It's also possible to do it with C++, VB, C# etc... with the right kind of interpreter. The options are massive. WYSIWYG is pretty much the only way you can't do it.

JeremyM Posted at 5:35 am on July 18, 2008
WYSIWYG editors are ok for simple shit.

The code isn't always the best though.

scottyrob Posted at 5:15 pm on July 17, 2008
A WYSIWYG editor is for creating HTML pages.

EDIT: It is ussually used for creating HTML pages but it can be used to create other forms of pages or even non-web applications.

Forums, guestbooks, contact forms etc etc are not in HTML they are ussually in another language, ussually PHP or CGI. WYSIWYG cannot possibly create every single thing there is on the web nor can it code every single language.

All of those mentioned above are avaliable pre-built online. I.E you can search for "PHP Forum" on google for a pre-built forum which you just have to install.

Are you talking about Dreamweaver and the like?  Or pre-built forums like PhpBB?
sake Posted at 5:05 pm on July 17, 2008
dosent that defeat the purpose of a WYSIWYG website?.\
h a t t Posted at 1:58 pm on July 17, 2008
You don't need scripting knowledge just to create the layout.
sake Posted at 1:22 pm on July 17, 2008
wouldnt have to know scripting language regardless??
h a t t Posted at 1:07 pm on July 17, 2008
Yeah but you need to know a scripting language as well to make it function.
