I'm looking to get a personal website hosted with a domain name but I've never actually done it before. I mean, I've designed layouts and coded them and set them up, but I've never actually had them hosted, unfortunately. I was looking at DreamHost and it looks like a good deal to me but I was wondering if anyone uses it or has used it before and can tell me what they thought of it?

Also, is there anything I need to know about hosting from a company like that? Would I be totally lost if I've never done this before?

What is your site going to contain?

I would recommend Netfirms or Hostgator.

They both have good support and are very cheap. You get tons of bandwidth/space for an amazing price.

I use both of them regularly.

Dreamhost is not a particularly good host to go with. Their service is impersonal and they don't offer the greatest value for money. They're also not the most ethical of businesses.
