what kinda softwares do professionals use for web design

most just use a simple text editor like notepad

Hm. I use DevCPP for C and C++ programming.
For everything else, though, I use Notepad.

A text editor set up with monospaced font, syntax highlighting, and line numbering.

When scripting, dreamweaver is a common tool I use when I'm not just using notepad.

Try looking for PHP stylesheets. The program itself does not matter.
