All domains have an expiration, as you may know. And it tells you the exact second it will expire. Do domain registrars give you an expiration notice to renew it? Or is it done the second it's registered to expire?

I sorta want that exact domain name. They probably won't want to sell it to me though, as their well known, and I'll probably get bombarded with e-mails to get me to sell it back to the original owner

If the owner isnt using it, try looking them up on WhoIS or ICAAN, and emailing them. They might be willing to sell it to you.
