The problem is, I've got the 32-bit version of Windows. Will there be a ridiculous, considerable and noticeable difference if I upgrade the OS, or is there no point in doing so?

The only noticable difference between using any 32 / 64bit OS is the amount of ram it supports 32Bit supports upto 3Gb ram, 64bit supports at least 32Gig It will not noticably effect anything else

QFT. And unless you are an application whore who likes to have every app on their computer going at once, you won't need more than 3Gb.
you on vista or xp? I use a 64b version of vista ultimate and it's a huge difference compared to the 32bit
