What I mean is say I saw something with a clip I wanted on youtube, how do I download it so I could use it in my editing program?

Choose the format you want Zamzar to convert the video into.  Enter your e-mail address, and wait about 5 minutes.   Zamzar will send you a link to the captured video, in the chosen format. Go to the link.  The video should download, already converted to the appropriate format.
