You should backup only your most important documents. That is photos, music, documents, artwork, etc. essentially.

Those backup hard drives really aren't meant to literally back up your entire computer so that you're able to function if your computer's hard drive fails, if that's what you're wondering. It's essentially a giant jumpdrive.
