The files are quite incomplete . . .

On things like bit torrent, the majority of files are in .avi format. Divx or Xvid.

To be honest I have never seen a movie or tv episode in mkv, ogg or ogm format ?

Didn't look too hard then. And remember, WMP STILL doesn't support basic codecs like DivX/XviD out of the box.

How come I can view incomplete torrents on WMP ?

Probably because they're WMV files, possibly avi, and because you already had the first and last pieces, and probably most of the rest of it as well.

Try playing even a slightly incomplete mkv, ogg, ogm, etc. file under WMP.

Torrents cannot be previewed, unless one complete file contained in the torrent is completed before the others.

Wrong. They can be previewed. See my above post.

If you're using Windows Media Player, then you'd be right, because WMP is a piece of crap that can't play anything unless it's 100% perfectly complete and has 0 errors in the file, and is one of microsoft's authorized formats.

You can't preview movies.

Yes you can. First, on uTorrent, go to Options-> Preferences, click on "Advanced" in the list, and find this line: "bt.prio_first_last_piece", click on it, and set it to "true".
That makes it give high priority to the first and last piece of the file, which lets media players play back the file at least partially even if it's not complete yet.
