I'm told that on a 64bit windows os will create two files

one for 64bit apps

and

one for 32bit apps

it would be nice to get a 64bit windows os but
if my 32bit apps won't work then forget it.

Both the 64bit versions of Vista and XP can run 32bit applications.

I'm asking because a guy said that the program wouldn't run on his 64bit os. What about programs for 64bit xp?

Many 32bit programs will run fine on a 64bit Vista.  For hardware there are usually separate drivers.
