alright, lets clear this up. when u buya  desktop from apple u dont need a tower, everything is in the screen. this mac pro is if u need a RIDICULOUS amount of power like for a business or something. do some research. anyone would know that this would be ridiculous for a simple desktop. also this has many many options added. this was obviously posted by a mac hater to get people to think that macs are crazy amounts of money.

All those specs have doubled/tripled by now. The LCD screens have been updated (well, the 24" at least...). This price includes iWork, Apple Care, the screens, etc. that are not actually a part of the computer... And now it's actually at little bit cheaper: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIyMQ
The max ram has doubled to 32GB and the storage has quadrupled to 4TB...

This is slightly misleading. Things like the screens will set you back a lot, as does a lot of the software they would have to have selected to get that price. As would things like the the fibre network card and the decent RAID controller they would have also selected.

I agree it is still very expensive, but it is not as bad as it is being made out.

I just priced up a machine that'd be as impressive today as that would've been then - software, hardware (even stuff I deemed useless, like another network card alongside the integrated one), and maintenance cover included. I kept the OS unix based, obv windows would add another $99 onto it but hey, still much cheaper... only 12GB of RAM due to 6 slots seeming to be the max, but their frequency is 3 times that of that Mac's so it might as well be 36GB. $2928, all included - most of that on the monitors. And I did no price comparisons, since I don't know many US stores. That's almost a tenth of the price of that mac.

Given that amount of money I could build a ridiculously good PC and still have enough money left to build a second ridiculously good PC and create the ultimate Setup.

Christ, you could build 6 ridiculously good PCs with that much money, and still have cash left over for software licenses for the lot of them :P

Outdated, that is from 2005.  G5 PowerPC processors are no longer sold.

..and isn't the Quadro FX 4500 a workstation card?

Yes, and it is no longer top of the line.  The FX5800 is the modern king, ~$3100 and 4GB.  Here.
