here is what I found out:

Interesting ports on 66-194-152-50.dimenoc.com (66.194.152.50):

(snip)

TCP/IP fingerprint:
SInfo(V=3.75%P=i686-pc-windows-windows%D=10/21%Tm=41780255%O=21%C=20)

After tinkering around with that utility on my network, I think I know why you got that. That's part of the response given when it finds a service not in the list. The i686-pc-windows-windows refers to your computer, not LW's servers.

I showed you scans that I did quite a few months back and pointed you to a site who *should* have current information.  Yes it does contridict, but they were taken at different times, and with different tools.

ok, you win on that one...*takes note*

everything you want to know about the server.

well, i followed you link..and this is the first thing i saw...

http://golivewire.com was running Apache on Linux  when last queried at 24-Feb-2005 20:04:28 GMT

That's simply what the server claims to be running. It's very easy to fake that, in fact faking banners is quite common as it throws hackers off.

also, it is quite common for apache to be mistaken for windows by lots of tools

The way the tool sriehl used works is that it looks for distinctive ways in which different operating systems handle TCP/IP. The results from that are generally a lot more reliable than what a server says it's running, and a lot harder to spoof.

For the record, a test here with a old version of that tool gives "Linux 2.4.X" as the os. Sriehl, either you typoed or the internet ate some of the fingerprint stuff.

Where did you find this out?  In Dave's profile it says his computer is a Mac, but I assume this isn't the LW server.

here is what I found out:

Interesting ports on 66-194-152-50.dimenoc.com (66.194.152.50):
(The 1649 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: filtered)
PORT     STATE  SERVICE
21/tcp   open   ftp
80/tcp   open   http
110/tcp  open   pop3
143/tcp  open   imap
443/tcp  open   https
995/tcp  open   pop3s
3306/tcp closed mysql
6666/tcp closed irc-serv

TCP/IP fingerprint:
SInfo(V=3.75%P=i686-pc-windows-windows%D=10/21%Tm=41780255%O=21%C=20)

There is more but that is all I felt was nesicesary to make my point.

You should ask the administrator David that question.  (davjs) I really have no clue.
