I've had no problems with the firmware update at all. I did however download yet another firmware update the very next day. 2.41. i assume they fixed it with that. but, i wouldn't kow. Also I fail to see how a fucked up update has any bearing on the ps3 being a problem-free console, but that's just me. 360 updates have bricked systems as well.
